Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu - artelino
I have experienced hundreds of hotels in my life time, from crummy lodges in my youth to many luxurious places in my later years. And I have been frequently to Nepal. But I have never experienced anything like this before - Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu, where I spent 10 days in February of 2008.
Read my personal report, and watch a video with the daughter of the founder of Drwarika's.

Chitwan National Park - artelino
If you just want to experience a wildlife park, I would probably give such places like Kenya or Tanzania or South Africa the first preference.
But if you happen to be in Nepal and have enough time or if you want to get away from the noisy, polluted Kathmandu valley, then Chitwan National Park in Southern Nepal is a good option. Read the article and watch the video.

Slideshow Kathmandu Valley - artelino
Slide show of Kathmandu valley featuring photographs I took in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Today the images are partly historic documents as the scenery does not exist as it once was due to the rapid urbanization. Landscape has been replaced by ugly urban buildings.

Slideshow Kathmandu - artelino
Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal and the major city in the Kathmandu valley. In 1975 Kathmandu city had roughly 150,000 inhabitants. At that time Nepal had no TV and the holy cows had a firm control over New Road, one of the major streets in the center of Kathmandu.

Lukla Airport in Nepal - artelino
This articles shows a video of two landings and two take-offs on just one runway within just 4 minutes at Lukla airport in the high mountains of the Himalayas in the Khumbu region in Nepal.
The video is only seemingly funny with no accident happening. If you are an avid traveler but have never been to Nepal, you get a rough idea of what you should be prepared for.

My Journeys to Asia - artelino
The photos for the slide shows of this site were nearly all taken during several trips to Nepal, India and Burma that I made between 1979 and 1983.
Many of these images are now historic documents. Especially the landscape scenes in Kathmandu valley do no longer exist in this way.

Back to Kathmandu - artelino
I had not seen Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, since the early 1980s. 25 years later, I decided to return, this time to look for fine art.
After I published my intention to travel to Kathmandu, I received many emails from customers who themselves had traveled to Kathmandu in the 1970s and 1980s. They asked me to report on my experience upon my return. So here is my travel account of Kathmandu.
