When ten thousands of Tibetans crossed the high mountains to the South fleeing from the occupying troops of Communist China in 1959 they could not bring any material values with them. But they brought their knowledge of old Tibetan crafts and arts and the unique Tibetan culture to Nepal, India and Bhutan.



Dragons are among the favorite design elements on traditional Tibetan rugs. They are an old good-luck symbol in Tibetan mythology. And dragons are for Tibetans benevolent beings - quite in contrast to their reputation in Western cultures.
Among traditional Tibetan carpets the so-called tiger rugs are a unique and fascinating genre of its own. The designs of these carpets show one or more tigers in figural and sometimes even in abstract compositions.
In January of 2008, the owner of artelino GmbH started a project in Kathmandu, Nepal, together with an old friend of his to offer traditional, high-quality Tibetan carpets.
